Microsoft has announced that The Outer Worlds 2 will now launch at $69.99, reversing earlier plans to set the price at $79.99. The decision comes after widespread discussions about rising game prices and community concerns.
In an official note, the company explained:
“We’re focused on bringing players incredible worlds to explore, and will keep our full-priced holiday releases, including The Outer Worlds 2, at $69.99, in line with current market conditions.”
This move brings the game in line with the current AAA pricing standard rather than pushing it into the higher tier initially suggested.

Developer Obsidian Entertainment addressed the news in a tongue-in-cheek message across social media, staying true to the satirical tone of the franchise:
“We have received your SOS via skip drone about the pricing. As an organization devoted to making sure that corporations do not go unfettered, we at the Earth Directorate have worked with [REDACTED] to revise the price of The Outer Worlds 2.”
The post was widely shared, earning praise for its humor and lore-friendly style.
Alongside the pricing update, Microsoft confirmed that The Outer Worlds 2 will be available day one on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass, making it accessible at no extra cost for subscribers.
The initial price speculation sparked criticism from gamers, many of whom argued that $80 pricing would set a concerning precedent. With this adjustment, Microsoft has signaled that it’s willing to respond to community expectations while maintaining the value proposition of its subscription service.
