NVIDIA and AMD will reportedly have to share 15% of their revenue from AI chip sales in China with the U.S. government, according to Financial Times and The New York Times.
The agreement, sources say, is a condition for receiving export licenses to sell AI processors in the Chinese market. It comes just a month after U.S. authorities gave NVIDIA the green light to resume sales of its H20 chip — a model specifically designed for China to comply with trade restrictions.
Under the deal, NVIDIA will pay 15% of its H20 chip revenue, while AMD will do the same for its MI308 processors. The administration of President Donald Trump has yet to decide exactly how to use the funds.

The arrangement could be highly lucrative for Washington. The NYT notes it may bring in over $2 billion, with Bernstein Research estimating NVIDIA’s China sales could top $15 billion by the end of 2025, while AMD’s could reach $800 million.
