The FBI has dismantled one of the largest video game piracy operations, seizing multiple high-traffic websites that distributed pirated Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and PC games. The operation, announced on July 10, 2025, targeted notorious piracy hubs like Nsw2u, a leading source for Switch ROMs.
The seized domains include nsw2u.com, nswdl.com, game-2u.com, bigngame.com, ps4pkg.com, ps4pkg.net, and mgnetu.com. These sites now display an official FBI seizure banner, confirming the action was executed under a warrant from the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia. International support came from the Dutch Fiscal Information and Investigation Service (FIOD).
“These sites were online criminal marketplaces providing pirated versions of popular video games,” the FBI said. “They hosted pirated copies of highly anticipated titles days or weeks before official release.”
According to investigators, between February 28 and May 28, 2025, the sites recorded over 3.2 million downloads, causing an estimated $170 million loss to the gaming industry.

Nsw2u had been a major source for Switch ROMs, allowing users to play pirated games on modified consoles or emulators. The site was already listed on the EU’s piracy watchlist in May, just two months before the takedown. Downloads reportedly continued until hours before the seizure.
Nintendo has not yet issued an official statement, but the company is known for its aggressive anti-piracy stance. Recently, it took legal action against the developers of the Yuzu emulator and imposed hardware bans on unauthorized devices for its Switch 2 console.
This move marks one of the most significant anti-piracy crackdowns in recent years and suggests a broader effort to dismantle major illegal distribution networks worldwide.
