Cyberpunk 2077 fans received some breathtaking news this week: Keanu Reeves has confirmed he’s eager to reprise his role as Johnny Silverhand in the sequel.

Speaking with IGN while promoting his upcoming film Good Fortune, Reeves was asked if he’d be open to returning in Cyberpunk 2. His response was emphatic:

“Absolutely. I’d love to play Johnny Silverhand again.”

A legend and a meme

Reeves’ connection with the Cyberpunk community began at E3 2019, when a fan famously shouted “you’re breathtaking!” during his on-stage appearance. Reeves’ wholesome reply — “you’re breathtaking… you’re all breathtaking!” — instantly became a viral gaming moment.

Could Silverhand return?

Whether Johnny Silverhand can canonically return in Cyberpunk 2 depends on which ending of 2077 CD Projekt decides to make official. Some speculate that Silverhand could reappear in cameo form, as an echo inside someone else’s cyberware, or even merged with protagonist V. Others argue his story should remain complete and that the sequel should strike out in a new direction.

What we know about Cyberpunk 2

  • Officially in pre-production at CD Projekt, with over 100 developers already involved.
  • Previously codenamed Project Orion.
  • According to co-CEO Michał Nowakowski, the studio’s average timeline suggests a release no earlier than 2030.
  • Creator Mike Pondsmith has teased the game will feature a new city alongside Night City, describing it as “like Chicago gone wrong.”

For now, Reeves’ enthusiasm adds to the growing excitement for the sequel. Whether Johnny Silverhand returns in a full role, a cameo, or just as a memory, fans seem more than ready to welcome him back.
