Netflix has released The Thursday Murder Club, a new mystery film directed by Chris Columbus, best known for Home Alone and the first two Harry Potter movies. The film premiered on August 28 and is already receiving its first wave of reviews.

Based on the bestselling 2020 novel by British author Richard Osman, the story follows a group of retirees who spend their free time investigating unsolved crimes. Their hobby takes a serious turn when they suddenly find themselves entangled in a new and particularly complex murder case.

The cast features Pierce Brosnan, Ben Kingsley, Helen Mirren, and Celia Imrie, with supporting roles played by David Tennant, Jonathan Pryce, and Naomi Ackie. The runtime is 118 minutes, and the film is available with Russian subtitles.

This marks Columbus’s first directorial project in five years. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film currently holds a 73% freshness rating, while on Metacritic, it sits at 58/100. Critics praise the charismatic cast and charming tone but note that the plot can feel somewhat predictable.
